Many, many thanks to Toni Klinkenberg who has handled the layout of this newsletter for several years. Given the format she inherited (and could not change) it wasn’t always an easy job. Toni was faithful about getting editions out on time, following up with missing news, and maintaining an accurate distribution list. Fortunately, Toni remains on the Communications Committee and will be contributing to the production of the “new” newsletter. Toni, MANY THANKS from the Communications Committee and all of CUMC!
A NEW NEWSLETTER ??? YES! After much exploration, long discussions, and evaluation of what is needed at CUMC at this time in our history, you will see the first edition of “Ministry Matters” Sept. 1.
Communication and connectivity are especially important during this pandemic and you will see that reflected in the lively photos, warm words and thoughts from many contributors.
A special thanks to the Communications Committee members Toni Klinkenberg, Mary Jo Messenger, Judy Pittman and “consultants” Dea Atkins, Phyllis Kelley and Lisa Lindberg for many Zoom meetings, phone calls, research and creativity which led to the design and implementation of this exciting tool for our congregation.

PASTOR PONDERINGS
The past month has been trying as well as rewarding. It has been a struggle to keep up with everything concerning my mother. I thank God for my cousin and everyone else who has stepped up to help and support me.
The new ministry, the Justice For All Committee, of the church has been a blessing. It is a good thing when like minded people come together to address an issue. Special thanks to Tom and Katie Alsbrook and Sara Swanson. They have done a lot of extra work and provided much needed input on this committee. A special thanks also to Suzanne James, who is guiding us in this process. As you have been made aware our goal is not to protest, although we may at times, or to collect and donate money. Our goal is to initiate a process of change in our church and the surrounding community.
Thanks to Dea Atkins, Lay Leader, who has stepped up to lead the ministry on our being a Reconciling church. Dea is looking for you to come and support her in this effort. Please contact her asap, if you are a person who would like to volunteer on this very important committee.
We all mourn the loss of Carolyn Leveque, she was such an important part of our church and its ministries. I have recently been told many stories about your travels with her, her love of family, which included her pets, and how much she loved her plants as well. Thanks to all who visited with her regularly, helped her with so many things, and showed continued love toward her. I know how much it meant to her, as she often talked about you to me.
Thanks to everyone who have continued paying on your pledge and giving offerings to the church. You can’t know how much it means to know the ministry can continue and is supported generously by you.
I have to say a special thank you to Phil Lindberg, Lisa Lindberg, Pam Wilt, Phyllis Kelly and the worship committee, and Ching-Ju Cheng for all they have done to make our Zoom church appear to work so effortlessly. The music has just been wonderful and our services have been very spiritual and extraordinary because of their hard work.

SCRIPTURE LESSONS
The Revised Common Lectionary (RCL) is based on a three-year cycle of Sunday Eucharistic readings with Year A focusing on the Gospel of Matthew, Year B focusing on Mark, and Year C focusing on Luke. The Gospel of John is interspersed through all three years of the lectionary. The Sunday lectionary readings are chosen to highlight the ministry of Jesus Christ and the story of God’s people. The pastor or worship planners have the option of making substitutions to suit a particular purpose (e.g., baptism, confirmation, installation of church leaders, etc).

BOARD OF CHILD CARE
CUMC members donated $300 in Target cards & $100 in Walmart cards to the Board of Child Care. The staff will purchase sports equipment, games, & craft materials for the teenagers who live there this summer. CUMC also benefits when you purchase gift cards from Delvin. Thanks to all who contributed.

UNITED METHODIST CHURCH NEWS
The COVID-19 pandemic has postponed and/or altered some significant organizational meetings of the United Methodist Church (UMC).
The UMC Baltimore Washington Conference Annual Conference, originally scheduled for several days in late May, has been postponed and shortened. It is now all to take place on Sept. 12, 2020, and will be via webinar. Critical business to address will be ordination and passage of the annual budget.
Also, the UMC General Conference, also originally scheduled for May 2020, will be held from Aug. 29 – Sept. 7, 2021, in Minneapolis, MN.
